SMALL SCALE REFLECTIONS ON A GREAT HOUSE

                        The poem reflects the speaker's reflections on an ancestral house. the  poet mentions that some things that entered the house never went out. They lost themselves amongst other things that had similarly a history of being lost
                      
                       Cows that entered were provided with shelter and gifted with a name . their mating with bulls was carefully shielded from the young girls of the house.

                          Library books once borrowed from libraries never found there way back.  They remained only to serve as breeding homes for insects, and worms like he silverfish that multiplied in the office room of the head of the family.

                           Dishes that belonged to the neighbours were never returned.  The neighbours came to the house to distribute sweets to celebrate the wetting anniversary of some god.  Here the poet makes fun of the frivolity of tradition,and plurality of religion.

                          Servants once employed, never left the house.  Gramophones continued to remain there. On a distressing note, the poet mentions that disease like epilepsy that once entered the blood continued to haunt the generations to come.

                          Sons-in -law who came to see their mothers-in- law never left the house. They were asked to stay back to check domestic accounts by the mothers-in -law ,or office accounts by the fathers-in -law .  They were also asked to stay on to teach arithmetic to the nieces of the family.

                          women who came as wives of some male members never left the house. they were left to witness monsoons beating against the banana plantains.

                          The poet then goes on to say  that something that went out of he house did find their way back. Bales of cotton were carried out to Manchester in the UK, these bales returned processed as packets of cloth with heavy bills attached to them.  he cloth was then used as loin-cloth by men of the house that provided that it was coarse if smoth, it served the purpose of night-dress. Letters posted by members of the family found their way back as they were redirected by the post-office  that failed to locate precise address.

                          Ideas that originated in the house conveyed to outsiders, returned o he house as gossip.  Little did the conceivers of gossip comprehend that the rumours that they were spreading had their roots in the very house.  A begger once sang a song outside the house in an unmusical tone, this song was also not free from the four walls of the house, as a cook had picked up the lyrics of the songs, and sang it  in a jarring voice.

                         Some things that went out of this house could never stay out for a longer period of time. Te returned right on time and these included daughters that were married to idiots and were therefore found to be incompatible to live with. Or it happened that these idiots had turned them out of the house.

                          Many years later, a nephew who had left the house to join the army returned as a dead body .  He had been killed in the course of a class between  the country`s border security force and that of the neighboring country's security forces.

                     கவிதை, ஒரு மூதாதையர் வீட்டில் பேச்சாளர் பிரதிபலிப்புகளை பிரதிபலிக்கிறது. வீட்டிற்குள் நுழைந்த சில விஷயங்கள் வெளியே போகவில்லை என்று கவிஞர் குறிப்பிடுகிறார். அவர்கள் இழந்த ஒரு வரலாறு போன்ற மற்ற விஷயங்களை தங்களை இழந்தனர்
                      
                       நுழைந்த அந்த பசுக்கள் தங்குமிடம் மற்றும் ஒரு பெயரில் பரிசாக வழங்கப்பட்டன. வீடுகளிலுள்ள இளம் பெண்களிடமிருந்து எருதுகளால் அவற்றின் இனப்பெருக்கம் கவனமாக கையாளப்பட்டது.

                          லைப்ரரிகளில் இருந்து கடன் வாங்கிய நூலக புத்தகங்கள் அங்கு திரும்பி வரவில்லை. அவர்கள் பூச்செடிகளுக்கு இனப்பெருக்கம் செய்யும் வீட்டிற்கு மட்டுமே சேவை செய்தார்கள், குடும்பத்தின் தலைவரின் அலுவலக அறையில் பெருமளவில் வெள்ளி மீன் போன்ற புழுக்கள் இருந்தன.

                           அண்டை நாடுகளுக்குச் சொந்தமான உணவுகள் திரும்பி வரவில்லை. சில கடவுளின் ஈரமான ஆண்டு நிறைவைக் கொண்டாடுவதற்காக இனிப்புகளை விநியோகிக்க அண்டை வீட்டிற்கு வந்தார். இங்கு கவிஞர் பாரம்பரியத்தின் அற்புதம் மற்றும் மதத்தின் பன்முகத்தன்மையை கேலி செய்கிறார்.

                          ஊழியர்கள் ஒருமுறை வேலை செய்தார்கள், வீட்டை விட்டு வெளியேறவில்லை. கிராமோபோன்கள் அங்கு தொடர்ந்து இருந்தனர். ஒரு கஷ்டமான குறிப்பில், கவிஞன் கால்-கை வலிப்பு போன்ற நோய்த்தொற்றுகள் தலைமுறைக்கு வர ஆரம்பித்துவிட்டன என்று குறிப்பிடுகிறார்.
அவர்களது தாய்மார்களை வீட்டில் பார்க்க விட்டு வந்த மகன்கள். தந்தையர் பிரிவில் தாய்மார்கள் அல்லது அலுவலக கணக்குகளின் மூலம் உள்நாட்டு கணக்குகளை சரிபார்க்க அவர்கள் தங்களிடம் இருந்தனர். அவர்கள் குடும்பத்தின் அக்காக்களுக்கு கணித கற்பிப்பதற்காக தங்கியிருந்தார்கள்.

                          சில ஆண் உறுப்பினர்கள் மனைவியாக வந்த பெண்கள் வீட்டை விட்டு வெளியேறவில்லை. அவர்கள் வாழை வாழைப்பழங்களுக்கு எதிராக மழைக்காலங்களில் சாப்பிடுவதற்கு சாட்சியம் அளித்தனர்.

                          கவிஞர் பின்னர் அவர் வீட்டிலிருந்து வெளியே வந்த ஒரு விஷயம் திரும்பி வந்துவிட்டதாகக் கூறுகிறார். இங்கிலாந்தில் மான்செஸ்டரிலுள்ள பருத்திப் பால்களால் செய்யப்பட்டன, இந்த பேல்கள், அவற்றுடன் இணைந்த கடும் பில்கள் கொண்ட துணியின் பாக்கெட்டுகளாக பதப்படுத்தப்பட்டன. அந்த துணியால் வீட்டின் ஆண்கள் ஆண்களால் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டது, அது கடுமையானதாக இருந்திருந்தால், அது இரட்டையர்களின் நோக்கத்திற்காக உதவியது. குடும்ப உறுப்பினர்களால் அனுப்பப்பட்ட கடிதங்கள் துல்லியமான முகவரியைக் கண்டறிவதில் தோல்வியடைந்த பிந்தைய அலுவலகத்தால் திருப்பி விடப்பட்டதால், அவர்கள் மீண்டும் திரும்பி வந்தனர்.

                          வீட்டிலிருந்து உருவான கருத்துக்கள் வெளியாட்களுக்குத் தெரிவிக்கின்றன, அவர் வீட்டிற்கு வதந்திகளாய் திரும்பினார். அவர்கள் பரவிய வதந்திகள் வீட்டிலேயே தங்கள் வேர்களைக் கொண்டிருந்தன என்பதை வதந்திகளால் உணரவில்லை. வீட்டிற்கு வெளியில் ஒரு பாடல் பாட்டு பாடிய ஒரு பாடலானது, பாடலின் பாடல்களைப் பாடி, ஒரு குரல் குரலில் பாடியது போல, இந்த பாடல் வீட்டின் நான்கு சுவர்களில் இருந்து விடுபடவில்லை.

                         இந்த வீட்டிலிருந்து வெளியே வந்த சில விஷயங்கள் நீண்ட காலத்திற்கு ஒருபோதும் வெளியேற முடியாது. டீ சரியான நேரத்தில் திரும்பினார், இவற்றில் மகள்களை மணந்து கொண்டிருக்கும் மகள்களும் இருந்தனர், அதனால் அவர்களோடு சேர்ந்து வாழ இயலாது. அல்லது இந்த முட்டாள்தனமான வீட்டை விட்டு வெளியேறினது நடந்தது.


                          பல வருடங்களுக்குப் பிறகு, வீட்டிலிருந்து வெளியேற ஒரு மருமகன் இறந்துவிட்டார். நாட்டின் எல்லைப் பாதுகாப்பு படையினருக்கும் அண்டை நாட்டின் பாதுகாப்புப் படைகளுக்கும் இடையே ஒரு வர்க்கப் போரில் அவர் கொல்லப்பட்டார்.
